1930's Egyptian Revival Panel of Pharaoh
This figure’s wearing a leopard skin — something that was reserved for high priests during ancient rituals, often linked to funerals or spiritual rites. It could be a priest, a pharaoh, or a symbolic mix of both — either way, the outfit does the talking.
Appliquéd onto a natural textile with rich colours and hand-finished edges, this was made sometime in the 1920s to 1940s, when Egypt was all the rage. The detailing is great — from the headdress to the sash — and it’s got a strong graphic presence that holds its own.
