1960's Pal-Bell Sculptural Brass Tree Vase
Part tree trunk, part antlers, part “why does this work so well?”
A dark patinated brass vase by Pal-Bell — the Israeli metalwork company responsible for some wonderfully strange mid-century objects — with hammered branch forms extending from a bark-textured body. Somewhere between modernist metalwork and accidental sculpture, it’s the sort of piece that doesn’t really need flowers to justify being there.
The surface has aged beautifully over time, with warmer brass tones emerging through the darker finish across the raised areas and hammered branches. The proportions are particularly good too: tall and narrow enough to feel elegant, but with enough weight and texture to hold its own properly.
A very mid-century idea of nature translated into metal — stylised, slightly theatrical, and surprisingly convincing.
