19th Century Hand-Forged Iron Trammel Hook
Originally made to hang and adjust pots over an open hearth fire, this hand-forged iron trammel has long since outlived the kitchen it was made for.
The ratcheted teeth allowed the height to be shifted above the flame, while the lower hook and candle holder turned a purely practical object into something unexpectedly sculptural. Every part of it carries the slight irregularities of hand forging — uneven loops, softened edges and a surface worn back slowly over time rather than manufactured for effect.
We mostly liked it because it now feels somewhere between medieval tool and abstract iron drawing. The sort of object that clearly had a working life before anyone thought to call it decorative.
