Carved from richly veined rhodonite, the lid takes the form of a praying mantis poised above a finely decorated box. Lift it away and you're met with an unexpected addition: a polished piece of natural chalcedony, nestled inside like a treasured keepsake.
Whether originally intended as a presentation box, desk ornament or simply an exercise in lapidary craftsmanship, it's the combination of playful subject matter and beautifully worked stone that drew us in. Equal parts sculpture and curiosity, it's one of those objects that invites a second look.
