20th Century Japanese Netsuke Inspired Fish

A netsuke-inspired miniature, carved in the round with incised scales and slightly exaggerated eyes. Somewhere between ornament and character study — compact, a little odd, and very aware of its own expression.
 
We liked it for the face. It’s not pretending to be ancient or overly important — just a well-made small object with presence. The darkened detailing picks up the carving nicely, and at this scale it reads more like a tiny sculpture than a souvenir.
 
Small enough to overlook. You won’t.
