Antique Hand-forged Iron Candlesticks

These candlesticks were forged by hand from multiple iron components, worked hot and assembled as functional objects rather than decoration. The twisted stems were formed under heat, the drip trays and candle sockets shaped separately, then joined while the metal was still workable. On the heavier example, the bell-shaped base shows a clear construction seam where sections were brought together — a practical solution to give weight and stability to a taller piece.
 
They aren’t a matched pair, and never would have been. Instead, they sit comfortably together through shared material, scale, and age, despite their differences in base and proportion. Both show long, consistent wear: softened edges, layered corrosion, and surface pitting that speaks to decades of use rather than display.
 
We chose them for exactly that reason. They feel like objects that were added to a space over time, used properly, and kept because they worked. There’s a quiet sculptural quality to the forms — especially once you stop reading them as a pair — that makes them as compelling unlit as they are in use.
