Antique Indian Carved Wooden Grinder

An old wooden grinder from India, built rather more elaborately than strictly necessary.
 
The mechanism is housed inside a heavy timber body, with two carved figures forming the sides and a large turned handle above. Iron fixings hold the whole thing together, while decades of handling have worn the wood down to an almost black patina.
 
Originally a practical object, although at some point the practicality rather gives way to the carving, proportions and frankly excellent silhouette.
 
It no longer needs to grind anything.
