Antique Indian Repoussé Metal Box
A small repoussé metal box, late 19th to early 20th century, likely from India. The lid is worked with a lion’s head framed by floral scrolls, the sides chased with vines and flowers.
Lions carried weight in both local and colonial symbolism at the time — protectors, emblems of strength, and a motif that spoke to Indian craft as much as it did to British tastes.
A compact little box, once used for kohl, snuff, or keepsakes, with a surprising amount of detail for its size.
