Antique One Ife Terracotta Head

Antique One Ife Terracotta Head

£125.00Price

This terracotta Oni head is a replica from the ancient Yoruba city of Ife, in present-day Nigeria, dating back to between the 12th and 15th centuries. Made of fired clay, it represents a royal figure — probably an Oni, or king — and was used in ritual or commemorative contexts.

Like the bronze versions, these heads show incredibly refined, naturalistic features, with detailed scarification lines, calm expressions, and elaborate headdresses. Terracotta was often used alongside bronze in royal and spiritual art, and pieces like this speak to the high level of craftsmanship in Ife culture.

We've never come across one like this, so could not pass it up.  It say amongst other African pieces, however this stood out to us instantly.
