Antique Spanish Grand Tour Box
We can imagine a tourist, likely 120 years ago, visiting the El Escorial in Spain (the royal monestary outside Madrid) and wanting to bring something home as a token of their travels - thus was the way with the Grand Tour!
The top features a reverse printed image of the monestary under glass and the box itself is likely cast spelter with a copper effect and beautiful intracte work. Inside is silk velvet, making the likely purpose for keeping jewellery kept safe! The silvered mirror only adds to the charm of the box.
A interesting piece of history with the same function now as it had 100+ years ago!
