Arts & Crafts Ecclesiastical Copper Stand

The form is beautifully restrained — a wide shallow dish rising from a simple cylindrical stem and broad circular base. Every mark across the surface comes from the hammer, giving it that soft, uneven texture that only hand-worked copper carries. Turn it over and you can see the join where the column meets the plate — no attempt to hide the making.
 
It may once have stood on a small parish altar, supporting a chalice or candle during communion, but now it reads just as comfortably as a sculptural candle plinth. There’s something steady and architectural about it — purposeful, without decoration.
