Arts & Crafts Hand Hammered Copper Letter Rack
The Arts & Crafts movement was a counter designed to the mass production happening worldwide in the late 1800's into the early 1900's. It focused on the craft and work taken to make each piece - often using very tactile materials such as copper and wood.
This piece was made from a single piece of sheet copper, hand hammered, with the subtle planishing marks visible and a very (of the time) organic rounded edge. It's very much in the style of Roycroft, a well known American workshop "community" rather than a factory, of skilled artisans.
Without a signature or stamp, we cannot say for certain who made it or where - even still, it's a lovely example of turn of the century (last century!) craft.
