Burkina Faso Woven Basket for NY Museum
A hand-woven basket from Burkina Faso, originally sold through the Museum for African Art in New York.
It’s made in the coiled style typical of Burkina Faso’s weaving traditions, using natural fibres that shift from warm straw to deeper, earthy tones. These baskets were created by regional artisans for everyday use — storage, carrying, market work — and later found their way into museum shops as a way of supporting contemporary makers.
We picked this one because it has that lived-in honesty we like: simple materials, good structure, and a clear sense of where it comes from. The museum sticker just adds a small bit of back-story — a reminder that great everyday objects often take interesting journeys to get here.
