Ceramic Trompe-l’œil Strongbox
Not wood, leather, or iron, though it looks like it at first glance. This is all ceramic — a lidded box worked to mimic a studded strongbox, complete with tooled spiral decoration, a twisted “iron” handle, and even a little keyhole detail.
It’s an example of trompe-l’œil — literally “deceive the eye” — where clay is shaped and finished to look like another material. Likely made in the 20th century, it’s a decorative piece that plays with surface and texture, turning ceramic into something unexpected.
