Early 20th C Contact Photo Frame by Scovill & Adams Co
An early photographic printing frame by Scovill & Adams Co., New York, used in the contact printing process at the turn of the 20th century.
Built in hardwood with brass pressure bars and a split back, it was designed to hold a negative and paper tightly together during exposure. The numbered dial, marked “PAT. APLD FOR”, allowed for controlled adjustment — a small but telling detail from a time when photography was still a hands-on, mechanical process.
It’s all there in the construction — weight, hardware, and the logic of how it works. One of those pieces that carries its purpose with it, even now.
