Early 20th C Japanese Fukuwarai Sheet of Otafuku
A Japanese fukuwarai game sheet depicting Otafuku, who was associated with good fortune, happiness, and humour.
Printed on thin washi paper, it was never intended to become wall art. It was made to be folded up, brought out at New Year, laughed over and put away again. The surviving creases and handwritten notes suggest that's exactly what happened.
The face is intentionally unfinished. In the game, the missing features would have been added blindfolded. We thought it looked perfectly good without them.
Condition: Excellent - age related folding and oxidation
