Early 20th C Japanese Tabaka-bon

Early 20th C Japanese Tabaka-bon

£95.00Price

The tabako-bon was once a familiar sight in Japanese homes, bringing together everything needed for smoking in a single portable stand. This early 20th-century example combines a copper-lined ash well, now showing the expected verdigris of age and use, with two small drawers for tobacco and accessories, all housed within a restrained wooden case.

What caught our attention was its understated design. The simple timber construction, dark contrasting trim and naturally aged copper have developed a wonderful patina over time, while the removable side handles add an unusual detail that still leaves us wondering exactly how they were intended to be used.

Made for a very specific purpose, it now feels just as at home keepsakes, a planter or just a lovely decorative piece.

Condition: Good - age and use related patination to copper well
