Early Mid Century Szlagman Bronze Bowl
This bronze bowl had us straight away — the hammered surface, the deep green patina, and those playful looped handles that feel almost modernist.
Flip it over and you’ll find the stamp: Szlagman Jerusalem. That’s the clue that takes it back to the British Mandate period, likely 1930s–40s, before Israel was formally established in 1948.
Szlagman was part of a generation of Jerusalem metalworkers blending local craft traditions with the clean lines and modernist influences coming out of Europe. The hammered bronze connects to older Levantine traditions, while the looped handles give it a Bauhaus-like twist — the kind of detail that could sit happily in a 1930s design gallery.
It’s more than just a bowl: it’s a piece of history from a transitional moment, where regional craft met international design ideas.
