‘Goddess’ Sculptures by Maurizio Dusio
A hand-modelled ceramic sculpture by Italian multidisciplinary artist Maurizio Dusio, from his series of elongated female figures described as Goddesses.
Dusio works across sculpture, painting and works on paper, often using elemental materials including terracotta, wax, charcoal, ash and bitumen. His work has a distinctly archaeological quality, drawing on simplified human forms and ancient, ancestral imagery.
Here, the rough ceramic surface is finished in deep earthy, metallic tones with subtle flashes of gold, giving the figure the appearance of something somewhere between an artefact and a contemporary sculpture.
