Hand-Built Female Form Ceramic Vessel II
A hand-built ceramic vessel exploring the female form, with the body reduced to a wonderfully exaggerated arrangement of breasts, belly and neck.
Here, the modelling appears to bring the arms around the body, with the hands meeting across the breasts — somewhere between holding, covering and perhaps showing them off a little.
The dark, irregular surface retains the marks of making, with subtle shifts in tone and flashes of the warmer earthenware beneath. We found her alongside a second, closely related vessel, each clearly worked by the same hand but very much given her own character.
Part vessel, part sculpture. Modesty was clearly not the brief.
