Hungarian Brutalist Copper Box

Hungarian Brutalist Copper Box

£145.00Price

A surprisingly restrained little box for something that is essentially a block of copper pretending to be delicate.

The body is wrapped in a repeating cast relief pattern that sits somewhere between architectural screening, textile design, and decorative ironwork. The lid itself is left almost completely plain — just brushed copper with soft wear and tonal variation across the surface. That contrast is what makes it work. One half detail, one half restraint.

Inside, the pale wood lining softens the whole thing slightly, but not enough to stop it feeling properly brutalist. It still has that low, grounded, mid-century weight to it. The sort of object that feels less like “storage” and more like somebody quietly making sculpture under the guise of utility.

Unmarked, but very much in the wider conversation of mid-century Hungarian and Eastern European studio metalwork from the period.
