Japanese Late Meiji Period Bronze Spill Pot
Solid cast bronze with a hand-worked, bark-textured surface and a restrained flared rim. It's narrow, heavy for its size, and beautifully uncomplicated - no dragons, no flowers, no overworking.
The interior shows natural age and oxidation, and the base is left plain and honest.
Originally used as a spill vase (for holding paper tapers by the hearth) or as a small hanaire for a single stem. We like it because it doesn't try too hard. Just good metal, good weight, and that carved surface that catches the light properly when you turn it. Couldn't say no.
