Japanese Painted Wood Panel
Painted on both sides, this weathered wooden panel carries layers of colour, wear and revision that have accumulated over time. Whether originally decorative, architectural or simply a working surface, its history now feels secondary to its remarkable surface.
One side is dominated by deep earth tones punctuated by a glowing ochre form, while the reverse is washed in richly textured crimson. Scratches, losses and remnants of earlier paint remain visible throughout, giving the panel a depth that couldn't be recreated intentionally.
More object than painting, it sits comfortably on a shelf or can be displayed on either face depending on the mood of the room. The evidence of its life is exactly what gives it character.
