Late 19th C Anglo-Indian Carved Desk Tidy

Late 19th C Anglo-Indian Carved Desk Tidy

£115.00Price

An old carved desk stand, originally made to hold an inkwell and keep everything in its place — or at least attempt to.

Probably Anglo-Indian, late 19th to early 20th century, worked in dark hardwood and carved through far more than it really needed to be. Two small drawers sit at the base, with little compartments above them hidden under removable ‘roofs’, and a central opening where the glass inkwell would have lived — now missing, but still obvious. It’s all a bit over-engineered for something so practical, which is exactly why it works.

It’s not really about writing anymore. We’d use it for jewellery, small storage, or just leave it as is — one of those pieces that feels slightly impractical, but ends up being the thing you notice first.
