Early 19th C Islamic Tinned Copper Bowl

Early 19th C Islamic Tinned Copper Bowl

£60.00Price

The bowl is made in two parts; a separately formed rounded based joined to the side wall, then worked and finished into a single piece.  This allowed the maker to keep strength through the bottom while raising a deeper form.  You can still see the circular join line where the two sections met.

The repeated cross-hatched lozenge motif is simple and deliberate, added after the bowl was shaped rather than cast in, and the surface has worn down over time to a soft grey with warmer copper tones coming through where it’s been handled.

We chose it because it’s straightforward and well made. The scale is useful, the proportions are balanced, and the wear tells you it was actually used. It works just as easily as a functional bowl as it does sitting out on a table, which made it an easy one for us to snap up.

Condition: Good - wear and repairs consistent with age and use

Size: W 17.5cm x H 7.5cm
