Late 19th C Turkish Concertina Lantern
We found this in one of our go to shops - hanging from the wooden beams just above our heads...
It's was essentially a travelling caravans, within tents or even mosques where collapsible or shielded light was practical.
Made from fire resistant fabric, with ornate punched metal (we're leaning copper based on the oxidation), it tucks away perfectly for travel and expands to be a proper sized lantern. The punched holes in the top, allow the candle to burn properly.
On it's own, it's a great decorative item, however would make a lovely garden lantern, either hanging from a branch or hook. Interesting survivor of history.
Condition: Good - wear to fabric and metal consistent with age and use
Size: W 15cm x H 25cm (top of lantern) x H 36cm (including hook)
