Late 19th Century Devotional Souvenir Plaque
An oval relief depicting a striding lion, framed by surrounding script and cast in a soft lead alloy. The detail sits low and slightly softened at the edges — typical of the material — with oxidation settled into the surface over time.
Produced in the late 1800s as affordable devotional or pilgrimage souvenirs, these small plaques were made to be carried or kept close rather than displayed formally.
We liked the straightforwardness of it. A strong symbol, simply rendered, in a material that feels honest about its age.
No theatrics. Just a lion.
