Late Meiji Period Hand Finished Vase

Late Meiji Period Hand Finished Vase

£55.00Price

Not every Meiji vase shouts. This one barely raises its voice.

Thrown during the late Meiji period (1868–1912), its narrow bottle form is wrapped with a hawk gliding through windswept pine, all rendered in incredibly fine underglaze cobalt. Up close, the precision of the brushwork is almost at odds with the earthy clay body, whose scattered iron freckles soften what could otherwise feel overly formal.

It's the kind of object that probably spent its first life holding a single stem. A century later, it still doesn't ask for much. Just something worth looking at.
