Late Qajar Persian Glazed Pottery Horse
A Persian pottery horse from the late Qajar period, somewhere around the turn of the 20th century. He’s saddled up and seemingly mid-gallop, although the execution leaves just enough room for debate.
Hand-painted in blue, green, yellow and aubergine, then covered in a wonderfully thick glaze that has pooled, crackled and generally done its own thing in the kiln. The modelling is similarly unfussy — slightly wonky, quite crude in places, and all the better for it.
The underside was clearly nobody’s concern.
Condition: Excellent - minor loss to ears and saddle, consistent with age
Size: W 10cm x L 17cm x H 18cm
