Malachite Bowl II
One of those pieces that makes you wonder why anyone bothers trying to invent patterns.
Carved from a single piece of malachite, the bowl follows the natural shape of the stone while revealing a particularly striking section of banding at its centre. Layers of dark green, turquoise and almost mint-coloured rings gather into a cluster of formations that look somewhere between a map, a fingerprint and a microscopic photograph.
We were drawn to this one because the stone feels unusually active. Every surface seems to reveal another pattern, another line, another small formation hidden within the larger whole. A bowl, technically, but equally happy being admired for the millions of years it took to make the material in the first place.
