Malachite Bowl IV
Carved from solid malachite, this small bowl retains much of the character of the original stone.
Concentric bands of deep green and turquoise wrap around the surface, gathering around a naturally crystalline centre that has been left visible within the polished form.
What drew us to this example was the balance between refinement and raw material. The bowl has been shaped just enough to become functional, but still feels connected to the mineral it came from. From some angles the patterning resembles topographic maps; from others it feels almost abstract.
A reminder that some of the most remarkable designs take place long before anybody picks up a carving tool.
