Mexican Copper Candleholder by Gene Byron
Not all candleholders are really about candles.
Attributed to the workshop of Canadian-born artist Gene Byron, who made Guanajuato her home from the early 1960s, it belongs to the wider design language she developed alongside her painting. Byron became known for creating everything from lamps and furniture to copper, brass and tin objects, collaborating with local artisans to produce work that blurred the line between art, craft and everyday life.
Hand-cut, hand-soldered and pierced with floral panels, this is one of those objects that earns its place whether a candle ever finds its way into it or not.
