Mid Century Cefalu Vase
This carved terracotta vase came from Sicily from the area around Cefalù — a coastal town with centuries of layered history, from Greek settlers to Arab rule to Norman cathedrals.
The form and decoration feel connected to that blend of influence — especially the pierced geometric patterns, which echo Moorish design, and the incised lines that give it a hand-worked, almost ancient quality.
Pieces like this were often made for decorative purposes — not necessarily for holding water, but to cast shadows when lit from within or simply to sit as sculptural objects in a home.
It’s imperfect in just the right way.
