Mid Century Elizabeth Ann MacPhail Faceted Studio Pot

Mid Century Elizabeth Ann MacPhail Faceted Studio Pot

£35.00Price

Guernsey, c.1960s–70s

A small faceted form built from angled planes rather than a thrown cylinder.

Each side is divided diagonally, with warm iron-brown glaze meeting soft blue-green across sharp, folded edges. The surfaces are brushed and layered, allowing darker tones to gather along the joins. Inside, the glaze deepens to a richer green, creating a contrast between the structured exterior and the darker interior void.

It sits somewhere between pot and object. Not symmetrical, not fussy — just a confident little study in geometry and glaze.

Small in scale, but it holds its ground.

About Elizabeth Ann MacPhail

Elizabeth Ann MacPhail worked at Briglin Pottery, London, in the late 1950s before establishing her own studio at Grandes Rocques, Guernsey, from 1961. Her work sits within the British studio pottery tradition of the mid-20th century, combining functional form with confident hand-decoration. Pieces attributed to her Guernsey period were produced on a smaller scale and remain comparatively scarce on the market today.
