Mid Century Italian "Ice Stopper" Glasses by Angelo Mangiarotti
classic example of Italian design doing something clever without making a fuss about it. The sculpted indentation isn’t decorative — it’s there to hold an ice cube in place, stopping it knocking against the rim and slowing dilution. Simple, architectural, and very Mangiarotti.
Each glass is made from heavy Italian crystal and carries the ColleVilca maker’s mark engraved into the base, readable from inside the glass — a discreet detail, but one that confirms original production rather than later copies. They date to the mid-century period when Italian glassmakers were collaborating closely with architects and designers, treating everyday objects with the same seriousness as furniture or buildings.
We chose these because they’re a reminder that good design earns its price. They feel substantial in the hand, they work exactly as intended, and they’ve survived sixty-odd years without losing their relevance. Near-perfect condition, crystal clear, and increasingly hard to find as a matched set of four — this is proper design glassware, not just something nice to drink from.
