Mid Century Italian Micro-Mosaic Box

A small gilt brass box with a hand-laid Italian micro-mosaic on the lid — tiny glass tesserae arranged into a floral pattern with real precision.
 
These pieces were made in Italian workshops through the mid-century, often sold as souvenirs or keepsakes, but the craftsmanship is anything but touristy.
 
The work is incredibly fine, each fragment of glass cut and set by hand into enamel, forming a design that still holds its colour and detail decades on. A neat little object with quiet skill behind it.
