Mid Century Moroccan Amazigh Pot
We didn’t buy this because it was perfect — quite the opposite.
Hand-built terracotta from the Amazigh (Berber) pottery tradition of North Africa, most likely Morocco’s Atlas region. Low-fired, matte, and slightly uneven in all the right places, with a surface that’s softened over time rather than finished. The painted lines are simple — dark mineral bands and verticals laid straight onto the clay — more instinct than decoration.
It would have started life as a working vessel, something practical and handled daily, but that’s not really the point anymore. What’s left is the texture, the wear, and that slightly off symmetry that stops it feeling staged — the kind of piece that quietly does a lot of the work in a room without trying to.
