Mid Century Zulu Beer 'Ukhamba' Pot

Small hand-built black pottery vessel, likely Zulu work from the mid-20th century.
 
Finished with punched decoration and a smoke-darkened surface, with the slightly uneven shape and soft asymmetry that comes from being made entirely by hand rather than thrown too perfectly. The dotted patterning keeps it just on the right side of decorative.
 
We bought it because the form is good. Simple as that. Rounded, compact, and quietly confident without trying too hard.
