A small North African amulet box, hand-decorated with pressed floral and geometric designs. These boxes were used to hold a folded prayer or verse for protection, worn on a cord or hung in the home.
The metal has the soft tone of old white metal, with rope-twist edging and small side loops that show how it was once carried. Each mark in the pattern is slightly different, the result of slow, careful work by hand.
