Rare Vintage Industrial Gauges
Something about this trio stood out to us around everything else in the shop, we needed to know a bit more!
These solid cast iron forms were once used as pipe or guttering gauges - workshop tools designed to check or shape curved metal sections to a consistent standard. Each one corresponds to a different diameter, and the slight variation in their shapes suggests they were purpose-made, possibly even hand finished, for different profiles or materials.
Originally made for practical use in roofing or plumbing workshops, they've taken on a new life as sculptural objects. The weight, form, and surface patina give them a presence that's both industrial and artistic.
Early to mid 20th century and likely British.
