Romarin Grazebrook 'Zodiac' Painted Mirrors
These four playful painted mirror panels are part of Romarin Grazebrook’s (1934–2024) unmistakable body of outsider work. Each piece celebrates a zodiac sign through a named character — Peter is Pisces, Arthur is Aries, Edward is Virgo, and James is Taurus — rendered with expressive faces, stylised symbols, and a palette that’s bold yet oddly harmonious.
There's a wonderful mix of humour and sincerity in how the signs are depicted, with flowers, clouds, and astrological glyphs adding charm and narrative to each piece.
Grazebrook was a self-taught British artist who worked largely outside the mainstream. Her chosen canvas was often glass or mirror, and her output—rediscovered only after her death—is full of raw creativity, symbolism, and emotion. These zodiac portraits reflect her distinctive approach: intuitive, unpolished, and always deeply personal.
