Twisted Split Striped Studio Pottery Vase
Spotted this vase and it was one of those instant decisions — it had to come with us.
There’s something about the way it stands, tall and slightly twisted, like it’s caught mid-turn. The clay has that warm terracotta tone you only get when the potter lets the body show through, while the bold black-and-white stripes cut across like someone sketched straight onto the surface. Even the rim leans at an angle, which makes it feel more alive than formal.
Flip it over and you’ll see the little FS mark — the mystery potter behind it. Mid-to-late 20th century feels about right, but part of the charm is that it doesn’t give everything away at once.
It’s one of those studio pieces that works just as well empty, sitting as a small sculpture, as it does holding a single tall stem.
