Vintage Carved Elm Sculpture Bowl

Shaped from a single solid block, the form follows the natural curve of the wood rather than aiming for symmetry. You can see the grain running through it and a section of bark deliberately left exposed on one side — darker, rougher, a reminder of where it began.
 
The interior has developed splits over time as the wood has dried and settled, which only adds to the sense that this is a piece made by hand and left to age honestly.
 
It may once have had a more practical purpose — possibly even used as a mortar — but now it feels entirely sculptural. The kind of bowl that doesn’t need filling, though it carries fruit just as well as it carries its own weight.
