Vintage Dona Rosa Oaxaca Mexico Black Dish

A vintage black clay dish from the Doña Rosa workshop in Oaxaca, finished in the classic barro negro sheen and etched with a simple floral design. It’s the kind of piece that shows why this village became known for its distinctive blackware — traditional clay, burnished by hand, and fired to give that soft metallic glow.
 
We chose it for the artwork in the centre. The floral motif has that slightly naïve touch you see in older barro negro pieces, a reminder that these were made for everyday use as much as decoration. It’s a straightforward, characterful example of the craft — the sort of dish that slips easily into a collection because the making is honest, the form is clean, and the design tells you exactly where it comes from.
