Vintage Ghanaian Bolga Gathering Basket

A vintage Bolga basket from northern Ghana, tightly woven by hand from natural fibres with bands of faded red and black worked through the body.
 
Originally made as a practical carrying and gathering basket, this one has clearly done some miles. The colours have softened, the weave has shifted here and there and the wrapped handle has been worn smooth from use. None of which has done it any harm.
 
A very functional object that has gradually become a rather good-looking one.
