Vintage Hand-Carved Ashanti Stool
This beautifully carved wooden stool comes from Ghana and is rooted in Ashanti (Asante) tradition, where stools are far more than just furniture — they’re symbolic objects tied to identity, ancestry, and status. This one features a bold, sculptural animal base — likely a lion or leopard, both powerful symbols of leadership and protection in Akan culture.
The seat has that signature curved shape seen in royal stools, and the whole piece is carved from a single block of wood. It has a lovely warm patina and a timeworn feel that gives it so much presence. Traditionally, stools like this would be used in ceremonial settings or reserved for elders and important figures.
The patination on this is incredible, as it has clearly been sat on a lot over time, with the smoothness to the seat and clear rubbing marks where hands have touched the sides. It shows it was used and loved over time.
Would be perfect inside a doorway or the foot of a bed - a useful stylish piece of social history.
