Vintage Hand-Worked Metal Mermaid Panel
A hand-worked metal panel featuring a mermaid, made from a surprisingly thin sheet of metal and worked from behind to push the figure into relief.
There’s something wonderfully unsophisticated about her. The scales don't entirely agree with one another, the proportions are questionable and the whole thing has clearly been made by hand rather than anywhere near a production line.
Quite what she was originally made to decorate, we're less certain. An old hanging fixture survived on the reverse when we found her, although sadly not well enough to remain.
Part folk art, part wall sculpture, and a very good mermaid.
Condition: Good - some dents and bumps, adding to the character
