Vintage Japanese Jōmon-Inspired Stoneware Vase
The earliest Japanese pottery wasn't refined—it was expressive. Deep cord marks, carved surfaces and unapologetically bold forms defined the Jōmon period, and generations of studio potters have returned to that language ever since.
This vintage stoneware vase takes that same route. Geometric panels, rhythmic incised lines and a heavily textured charcoal surface give it the feel of something excavated rather than manufactured. The proportions are simple, but the surface does all the talking.
Whether displayed with a single stem or left empty, it's a piece that rewards a closer look. Every carved line catches the light differently, revealing a surface that's as tactile as it is graphic.
