Vintage Kashmiri Papier-Mâché Vessel
This hand-painted papier-mâché pot from Kashmir is full of charm, colour, and a touch of royal storytelling. On one side, a regal gentleman sits cross-legged with a scroll and a serious moustache; on the other, a graceful woman dances mid-movement—both dressed in richly detailed Mughal-style outfits.
Made using traditional Kashmiri techniques that date back centuries, this piece is a wonderful example of the region’s famous papier-mâché craft. The bold colours and fine brushwork show off the kind of detail that takes real time and care. And while the paint has softened a bit over time (as you'd expect from a mid-20th century piece), it only adds to the story and feel.
Not one for holding your water (papier-mâché prefers to stay dry), but perfect for a mantel, bookshelf, or as a conversation starter. It’s a little slice of handmade history—and a whole lot of character.
Condition: Good - normal wear to paint for age and use, small dent to the side - adding character and life
