Vintage Kelvin Bronze Marine Propeller
A substantial three-bladed bronze marine propeller, stamped KELVIN and 17 × 18, retaining the scratches, pitting and wear of its working life beneath an extraordinary high-polished finish.
The Kelvin story began in Glasgow in 1904, when engineer Walter Bergius started building motorcars named after the River Kelvin. Cars weren't to be his future. After fitting one of his engines to a rowing boat, Bergius turned to the water instead, and Kelvin became an important name in Scottish marine engineering.
Whether this propeller was made by Kelvin or supplied for one of its engines remains uncertain. What isn't uncertain is what a beautiful piece of engineering it has become.
After a lifetime spent pushing things forward, it's finally allowed to stand still.
